Course content
Day 1. Become a knowledgeable COSHH assessor and understand how risk occurs. Know exactly what is required in a COSHH assessment, how to carry it out properly, and where to get guidance and information. Work through case studies and realistic examples. Understand options for control measures.

Day 2. Complete your thorough understanding of the requirements of COSHH. Learn the theoretical and practical approaches to controlling risk, and how to judge when control is adequate. Learn about changing processes to achieve control, how exhaust ventilation and repiratory protection control work and, importantly, how they fail. Understand the importance of maintaining and checking controls.

*Note: To properly fulfill the legal requirement for “assessment” companies have to assess the risks to health and introduce the required control measures. For this reason, we recommend that everyone completes our comprehensive two-day course.
However, some companies have lower levels of risk and may not require details of more substantial control measures such as local exhaust ventilation or respiratory protection. And some ‘COSHH assessors’ work in a team and are not responsible for control. For these people the course is structured to allow them to gain sufficient knowledge from the first day.
